About Basically Black
When I look back, I realise how time has flown by. I spent 20 years
working in London, 15 in the crazy world of National Press, 7 of which
were in the advertising departments for some of the best-known newspapers
and latterly, heading up a selection of national weekly magazines. I have
been married for nearly 13 years and have two gorgeous daughters. I now
live in Leicestershire with my family, two black cats, a pony and huge,
flourishing vegetable patch!
In my case you can take the woman out of the business world, but you
can't take the business world out of the woman! Working hard, challenges
and sales are in my blood. So, 5 years ago whilst on holiday with a friend,
the idea of Basically Black was conceived, just as a thought, during a
conversation about flattering black clothing. Wouldn't it be great we
said if there was one place where you knew you could get well-made, chic,
elegant black essentials, for work, day-to-day casuals, evening wear or
parties? We had both worked in London a long time and knew that black
was a complete staple for the working lady and often outside the workplace
also. I am tenacious if nothing else and I felt sure I was onto something.
Suffice to say the seed was sown...
Let's face it; do you know any woman who does not own at least one item
of black clothing? A T-shirt, a cocktail dress, the never-to-go-out-of-fashion
black jeans, a business suit? Did you know that on average, over 40% of
a woman's wardrobe is made up of black!
So, after much research, hard graft, steep learning curves, not to mention
sleepless nights, Basically Black was born in September 2008! For my part,
I am very proud of what we have achieved. We have had some incredible
press coverage from the likes of You Magazine, Marie Claire and Easy Living
as well as invaluable feedback from our customers about our products and
services. We make sure that every parcel is carefully wrapped in black
tissue and satin ribbon and sent out if possible, the same day we receive
the order. We believe customer service is everything and we try to make

remember.
